Now that August has arrived, my two half marathons are getting closer and closer. My cousin Katie and I will tackle the Madison Mini Marathon on August 17, and I can’t wait to race alongside my Team Challenge buddies on September 8 in the Chicago Half Marathon.
Katie is faster than me, so we won’t be running side by side, but I have high hopes for this race. It’s a little hilly (at least by my Chicago girl standards), so it’s a nice practice race for the Twin Cities Marathon. My speed has been nice and quick during my mid-distance runs this training season, so I’m hoping this is the race where I finally get my 2:30:00 (or faster) half marathon. I am willing to work hard to get it.
Let’s face it, in August, (or in any race!) part of the deal is the weather cooperating. I’m not crazy enough to try to PR when it’s crazy hot, so I’ll definitely wait until next week to solidify my race goals. If not this race, I’ll be gunning for my goal time come September. By then, I’ll have even more marathon training and speedwork under my belt! I am so confident that this can happen.
