Let What You Love Be What You Do
I stumbled on this picture a while back and saved it. First of all, I want that little bowl thing. It’d be perfect for holding on to a random ring or necklace while you’re in the shower or putting on lotion, don’t you think? But second, what it says struck a chord with me. It’s simple. Let what you love be what you do.
I think it applies to all aspects of our lives. Your hobbies, the things you do to fill your free moments, the people who you choose to share your life with, and even your job. We spend so much of our days working, that I think doing what you really love is important. Steve Jobs said it better than I ever could.
For the past year and a half, I’ve been extremely happy at work. I have been nanny to my two favorite little boys on the planet — two boys who I have come to love with all my heart. There truly isn’t a day that I wake up and don’t want to go spend my day with them. I adore them. I’ve also gotten to do wonderful things with Girls on the Run, and organization I believe in and am passionate about.
But last month, I got the opportunity to apply for a job that was a perfect marriage of my passions. A job that would allow me to help raise funds and awareness for Crohn’s and Colitis within a running community that I adore. The Illinois chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation was looking for a Team Challenge Manager. Yes, the same Team Challenge that I’m pretty much obsessed with.
And well… I got the job!
While I loved the things I was doing, this particular job has me all kinds of excited. I simply adored my experience with Team Challenge and can’t wait to bring that experience to others. I start later this month and am simply thrilled for all the good things to come. I’m constantly amazed at what good things life can bring when you are working hard at doing the things you love.
So, hey local folks! If you feel like running Napa to Sonoma or Rock & Roll Las Vegas, you should join our team and run for a great cause. You’ll get to see my smiling face every Saturday, meet wonderful people, and raise money for a great cause. Perfect, right? I’m glad you agree.
Fill me in. Has something good ever “fallen in your lap” as the result of hard work and dedication to things you love? What’s the best job you ever had? What are you excited about in 2012?

Congrats! That’s awesome. I thought about working for CCFA at some point, but I want to stick out teaching for a bit longer…although I do feel like it won’t be my lifelong career. I have some other things in mind…

Thank you! Yeah, teaching was my first career path, but it wasn’t quite right for me either. I’m excited about this new step.
I am so excited for you! Congrats! While I have been lucky with the fact that I work with great people, the job I currently hold gives me no true excitement. I’ve been looking, but it has been a slow process. I hope to have as great of luck as you VERY soon!

Congrats!!! So excited for you.
The opportunity to do behavioral autism therapy TOTALLY fell into my lap years ago and became a huge, special part of my life. Love those serendipitous job opportunities!

Wow, congratulations! I am sure you will be an amazing and inspirational leader for the Challenge. Love the little bowl too, do you know where to find it?
I wish I did! I’m on a hunt for it. If I find it, I’ll let you know!

Exactly!
Congrats Lauren!
My current (and first job out of college) just basically fell in my lap. It’s a great place to work and I was so relieved to find a job.
